The Chillin’ is a lively, cool-climate Pinot Noir from The Graduates, a collaborative wine project started by three young winemakers who met while studying viticulture and oenology and now craft small-batch wines from hand-picked, single-vineyard grapes in Martinborough, New Zealand. The label reflects both their connection to the land and a fresh, modern approach to classic varietals from one of the country’s most respected Pinot Noir regions. Made from Pinot Noir grapes sourced from about 20-year-old vines on the Lake Ferry Road Vineyard, the 2024 Chillin’ Pinot was aged in French oak with full malolactic fermentation and designed to be enjoyed lightly chilled, enhancing its refreshing vibrancy while softening tannins. The wine shows bright raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, framed by fresh acidity and smooth, easy-drinking texture that makes it approachable yet characterful. In the glass it typically displays medium ruby colour with lifted aromas of red berries and subtle spice, leading to a palate that’s silky, vibrant and food-friendly with balanced acidity and fine, plush tannins. This approachable style of Martinborough Pinot is perfect for casual lunches, barbecues, light meats or cheese plates, and is versatile both on its own and with a wide range of dishes. Why we love this wine? We love chilled reds and Beaujolais Nouveau styles and its just cool to have a NZ chilled Pinot, yum!
