Clos Henri Estate Sauvignon Blanc (2023 Vintage) is an expressive Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from Clos Henri, a French-heritage estate in Blenheim’s Wairau Valley, Marlborough, New Zealand founded by the renowned Bourgeois family of Sancerre. Drawing on over two centuries of family winemaking expertise, Clos Henri marries organic and biodynamic viticulture with meticulous winemaking to let the unique terroir of glacial stones, wind-blown clays and cool maritime influences shine through. The vines are planted at high density and dry-farmed to encourage deep rooting and concentration of flavour, reflecting both Marlborough’s vibrant fruit character and Old World finesse. This 2023 Estate Sauvignon Blanc is 100 % Sauvignon Blanc that shows bright, lifted aromatics of citrus (lemon, lime), orange blossom, white peach and nectarine, underpinned by herbaceous notes and distinctive minerality that speak to its rocky, complex soils. On the palate it is juicy and medium-bodied, with crisp acidity, a clean, dry finish and a long, mineral-driven length that balances fruit intensity with elegance. Clos Henri’s approach reflects the estate’s French winemaking roots and Marlborough’s cool-climate identity, producing a Sauvignon Blanc that’s both vivid and refined, textural and vibrant rather than overtly tropical, making it a nuanced representation of the region. This wine pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, ceviche, grilled seafood, goat’s cheese salad, asparagus risotto or light Asian-inspired dishes, and also works wonderfully as a crisp, refreshing apéritif. Why we love this wine? We love the citrus and fruit profile of this wine tempered with textural minerality!
