The Wrekin Libby’s Block Chenin Blanc 2021 is a small-production, organically farmed Marlborough white from The Wrekin Vineyard, a family-run estate in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough, New Zealand that focuses on certified organic and biodynamic viticulture and hand-crafted wines with a strong sense of place. The vineyard’s hillside Chenin Blanc block overlooks a dam and sits on clay and greywacke soils, producing fruit with excellent natural acidity and flavours that reflect the site’s varied aspects. This wine is made from 100 % Chenin Blanc from “Libby’s Block,” named after the vine-pruning efforts of the family’s daughter Libby. The grapes are hand-picked and vinified with care to preserve freshness and expression, and the style is typically dry with bright fruit and textural complexity. On the nose it shows expressive aromatics of green apple, citrus blossoms and stone fruits, often complemented by subtle floral and mineral notes. The palate combines crisp acidity with juicy pear and lemon zest, a hint of quince or baked fruit character from gentle phenolic development, and a clean, refreshing finish that makes it versatile with food. This is a Chenin Blanc that balances fresh vibrancy with complexity, making it a great match for seafood, shellfish, light poultry dishes, fresh salads or creamy sauces. Its acidity also gives energy on its own as an aperitif. Why we love this wine? We love how The Wrekin terroir comes through in this wine, the crisp freshness complimented with a juicy baked fruit character. Moorish!
